Eighteen seniors were playing their last home game. Duke, with a win over North Carolina next week, could take the ACC crown. Wake Forest finished their season Saturday with a 16-13 win over N. C. State. "It was a great victory," stated Duke head football coach Tom Harp. "We really worked hard for this one. Our coaches and players and everybody worked overtime for this win. "It was a team effort" continued Harp, "the boys gave the game ball to Art Bosetti, who started in place of sophomore fullback Steve Jones, Bosetti ran the ball hard. "We were hurting in a couple of spots. Dick Biddle was injured but played and gave a super effort. Mike Peck started in place of Biddle and played real well, he sure helped out a lot. "All these kids played their guts out, this was one of the hardst fought games we've played this year. Carolina is not as big as Ohio State but bigger than every one else we've faced this year. "We felt all along we could win," continued Harp, "if we could just keep the kids coming back we knew we could hold them. The team spirit was terrific. We wanted this one real bad and we knew it was just a matter of the team staying together. "We adjusted our defense some in the second half, but other than that we didn't do anything dif ferent than the game plan, except for us having to keep coming back," Harp continued. "I'm very proud of the team and the coaches, I just can't say Freshmer Georgia By BILLY MOORE Sports Writer The USC freshmen face the Georgia freshmen in their last game of the year today at 2 p.m. in the Cockpit. The Biddies will be trying to bring their record up to a respectable 2-3 after dropping their last outing to Georgia Tech, 21-7. The Biddies will be trying to stop Georgia's quarterback Andy Johnson who is considered one of the top prospects in the nation. After being injured in the first game, he produced 563 yards total offense against Auburn and Florida. Biddie coach Jackie Powers expressed concern over the up coming game "This Georgia frosh squad was touted before the year as the best in the history of the school and behind the offensive The International House of Pancakes 4 Great Specials During the month of November. I kept telling the boys to keep cool and be calm, be proud keep your heads up and smile. They didn't get discouraged, they didn't quit and we won." Harp said "We knew Dickie Harris was good and that they were going to give him the ball, but when you have to field the ball then run back and lateral that gives us a little extra time to get down field and try to stop him. "Leo (Hart) is the best quar terback in the ACC. He played a great game, and he really helped keep the team spirit alive. He wanted this one real bad. Wes Chesson played a great game also," said the Blue Devil Coach. Hart was 22-31 for 302 yards and three touchdowns. Chesson was on the receiving end of 10 of those passes for 189 yards and two touch downs. Chesson also carried the ball four times, while Hart carried ten times. Ernie Jackson, who played his high school ball at Lower Richland turned in a good game at defensive back. "Ernie looked good," said Harp, "he did a fine job in the backfield and ran back a couple of real good kickoffs that gave us fine field position. He almost broke one and that would have been nice." "Its beautiful when you win in front of your family," said face -oday leadership of Johnson, I think they have developed into the powerful team everyone expected them to be." Powers was forced to make a few defensive changes due to in .juries. Darrel Austin a regular linebacker was moved to center due to an injury to starting center Richard Simmons. Both starting linebackers are still out with injuries and will be replaced by Mike Moser and Steve Zimmerman, non-scholarship players who have seen a lot of action this year. Running back Thad Rowe, who led USC rushers against Tech with 80 yards in 18 carries will key an improved Biddie running attack aided by fullback Richard Waggoner. Robbie Davis will start again at quarterback while Marty Woolbright continues at the flanker position. MEN! Contraceptives by mail. Free catalogue.
