trips planned by the University
Union Travel Committee.
Travel Committee Chiairman Ed
McFadden said that the committee
is "designed to offer trips at the
cheapest cost to the university
community. This is not just for the
students; It's for faculty, staff and
everybody in the University.
Sometimes it cauaa problems
when we're flying," McFadden
said, "because we can't get
student rates for everyone."
The Travel- Committee's first
trip is to Nassau and plans are now
being made for trips to Europe and
other Caribbean islands. Plans for
trips to the Mardi Gras and
Jamaica are now beiro finalized.

Last year the committee
sonsored trips to the Peach Bowl
and several skUng week-ends.
The Europe trip is tentatively met
for next summer and will be for a
nonth to six weeks. The first stop
in Europe according to McFadden
will be Amsterdam, Netherlands,
where the travelers will spend one
night and then will be turned loose
for the duration of the stay.
"People can make any
arrangements they like," Mc
Fadden commented, "and they
can take advantage of things like
European rail service. You can
buy a pass which allows you ride
any train in Europe for thirty days.
The travelers will be on their own.

planned for about 15 to 20 people.

Russ Meyer, crown prince of the pervert
cinema, has outdone himself. Unbelievable as it
may seem, the creator of "Vixen," and "Good
Morning, Goodbye," has gone beyond the realm
.of the incredible to the nether regions of out
freking-rageous.
"Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is. by far,
above any film ever done, the worst, the most
astonishingly bad piece of celluloid to ever come
out of a camera.
Meyer Is undoubtedly a genius. He has created
the utmost in bad film making, a veritable an
tithesis of what a great film should be.
"Beyond the Valley of the Dolls," is the best
bad film I have ever seen, everl This horror
show was no accident. No one could have done
such a thing by mistake.
Meyer must have stayed up nights thinking of
ways to make his masterpiece worse. Whatever
he did, he did an outstanding lob. "Beyond the
Valley of the Dolls" is without a doubt, the best of
the Meyer films. It is bad in every facet of its
being. Meyer has left no stone unturned, the film
Is terrible from beginning to end; in fact, un
believable as it seems, it gets worse as it
progresses.
Once again, congratulations to Russ Meyer, a
contemporary genius In the art of contemporary
farce.
While we're on the subject of bad films, let us
not forget "Move," the latest Elliot Gould film to
hit town. "Move" is a very bad film. It doesn't
come close to "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls,"
but it is no slouch. "Move" can hold its own with
the worst of them.

Elliot Gould is of course the briWt spot i
debacle, but then, Elliot Gould could be filon

Plossibly, "Move" should have tried this IrOed
)f its parade of disconnected scenes loined only
by the weakest of uninteresting themes.
Filmed over a year ago, it's no wondew so
much time has elappsed before It was finally
released. Unfortunately, bad films like bad wine
do not improve with age.
There is at least one good film to be sen,
"Monte Walsh." This movie stars Lee Marvin
and Jack Palance. It is a very good attempt at
"the real western" it claims to be.
Marvin plays an aging cowboy in an aging old
West that Is only a gasp away from death. The
story is about a man who refuses to believe that
the life he has loved and lived is over, due more
to "progress" than to old age.
"Monte Walsh," despite it's general ex
cellence, is guilty of trying to stage an exciting
ending. The film for the most part concerns Itself
with the real life of a cowboy, the cold water
baths, the body odor and the uncertainty of long
winters. The film can be criticized as oc
casionally dull in these portrayals, but oc
cassional lags are better than forced climaxes, a
pitfall the film stumbles Into when Walsh
vengefully pursues his best friend's murder.
Overall, "Monte Walsh" is a good film, not as
good as "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is bad,
but then nothing Is perfect.
Monday, "At The Movies," will review
"Soldier Blue," reputed to one of the best films of
the year.
