Big plans
for Caroli
"Big" is.the best way to describe
the plans of the Carolina Band.
"Our schedule calls for us to attend
all of the Carolina football games,
the New York Jets-Baltimore Colts
game in New York on October 18,
and the Atlanta-Chicago game in
Atlanta on November 1," said Pat
Wylie. Assistant Director of
Bands.
The size of the band has created
a financial problem that it did not
face last year. "It just costs more
to transport 250 people now than it
did to carry 170 or so like we did

"Our primary purpose in
operating the legal aid clinic is to
give our seniors some practical
experaikce.' Smith..'said. "It is
really a .,,ondary aim to give
aid." This,se0,Mstq t.n program is
in an organizational stage and will
concentrate on helping Carolina
students. "After .we are better
organized we will accept students
seeking advice from the other
colleges In the area," he said.
'I,INICAI. INSTRUCTION
-lThe clinical method of in
struction is still in an experimental
stage at Carolina. "Otir law school
has an many clinic as some schools
. and more than most," Smith said.
''Although it is still an experiment
and must be evaluated in a year or
so. I think the faculty feels that it is
a valuable educational ex
perience."
BY APOINMINT
We are running the clinic on an
-appointment basis," Smith said.
"T'hat is. the student seeking aid
makes an appointment to meet
with a law student and give him the
facts of the case. Generally, in a
subsequent interview the ap
propriate advice or assistance is
given. In some cases other
organizations can be of more
a,ssistance than we and we never
hesitate to recommend them to the
student."

meet this problem by selling the

The band will leave for New

we're optomistic about that." In

COUNSELING
In two weeks of operation the
clinic has handled a variety of
cases involving contracts, rents
and even some involving criminal
matters. The clinic is also
equipped to answer questions on
the draft.

for Professional Responsibility
ECLE~PR I. CLEPR was funded by
the Ford Foundation to provide
grants to law schools to encourage
experiments in clinical legal
education. Three grants from
CIEAPR totalling in excess of
$IM0.o4xn enabled the law school to
exta blish its five clinics, according
to Prof. Webster Myers Jr.
Smith came here from the
Uiniversity of Washington in
Seattle expecially to work with the
clinic. He said that the legal aid
clinic will operate the entire school
year. but that plans for the sum
mer are uncertain.

Wylie said that there would be no
financial problem for the ap

game. "We will stay overnight
after the Georgia game and then
play for that game before we
return." he said.
Wylie gave much of the credit for
the band's success this year to the
student leadership in the band. He
said that there is a large staff of
unpaid students who have a real
desire to have an outstanding
organization.
"Without these people we just
couldn't do anything at all. They
are the key to the whole thing," he
said.

to get up in public and say what
they think. I don't think we should
have ever went to Viet Nam, but
we're there and I think we should
back the boys. If we're going to
fight Communism, we'll have to
everywhere. If we're going to be
there, win. At least, back the boys.
I don't think we should have ever
stuck our nose in their business.
Just like we got troops in Turkey
now and we go over and mess with
King Hussain and Syria. It's none
of our business. But I think we're
over there, and I think every boy
should be supported to the hilt
while he is there. We've been there
actually about twelve years
fighting in a country not much
bigger than the two Carolinas.
That's why everybody knows it's a
political money war as far as I'm
concerned. And it could have been
won the first year. It's like Nixon
and Agnew. They ordered the
Rand Corporation to make a study
to see what effect it would have on
the public if there were no 1972
elections. Also on the same bill is to
do away with the Bill of Rights.
They hadn't denied it. Where this
came from. It came from the
Communist Party USA. There was
this document ordered by Agnew,
and they were printing it in three
parts. Now, if the're not
somewhere on the top how'd they
get a document that should be that
secret?
It was printed in a newspaper,
word for word, in installments.
Now I don't know if I have the
answer or not, but I do believe that
if we band together the people who

"Their outfits are made by hand
with every degree of care used for
real clothes." She said that some
dolls can't have their costumes
cleaned such as the one from
Bermuda wearing a skirt made
from banana leaves or the eskimo
dressed in brown fur.
The display will be educational,
expecially for children, according
to Mrs. Moore, since a world map
will be placed over one of the
cases. She said that she plans to
have numbers and colors on the
map which will match a doll with
its ,homelpnd.
