Mitchell General Studies Dr. Nicholas P. Mitchell, dean of the College of General Studies at the University of South Carlina, has been at the Univeratly since 1956. Mitchell attended the University of Texas where he received his B.A. and M.A. degrees and then earned his Ph.D. from Duke. He has taught at Louisiana State University, Duke, the University of Richmond, Furman and George Peabody College. From 1945 to 1950 Mitchell was news director of the Blue Ridge radio network. In 1950 he became editor of 'The Greenvie News, a position he held unti 1956 when he became publisher of the 'The Florida Keys Keynoter. In 1956 Mitchell joined the University faculty' as an assistant professor of journalism and director of the extension division. In 1965 he became dean of the College of General Studies. Ochs Arts, Scien 4ce Robert D. Ochs, head of the Department of History, is acting dean of the Colege of Arts and Scence at the University of South Carolina for the 1970-71 academic year. A native of Bloomington, Illinois, Ocha received his bachelor's degree from illinois Wesleyan University in 1936. He received a master's degree in 1937 and a -doctorate in 1939 from the University of IllinoIs. Ochs has been on the USC faculty since 1946 and head of the history department since 1960. Ochs served as an officer in the -J.S. Air Force from 1941-46. From 1939-1941 he was director of the Anti-Defamation League. At USC Ochs has also served as associate editor of the University of South Carolina Press from 1950 53. He was a visiting fellow at Meerton College, Oxford in England in 1964.
