Mike Perkins was the leading PiKa scorer with 14 points, 10 in the first half, followed by Fisher with 13, Laign with 11, Bobby Heald with five, Holloway with three, Arch Tifft with two and Hedlund with three. SAE was paOed by Turnbull's 14, Freddie Zeigler's seven, Bobby Temple with six, Teu with four, Chip Price with three and Capers Bouton with one. In the nightcap Maxcy and PrestQn battled on even terms in the first quarter with Maxcy leading 13-11 after trailing in the early moments. Preston came back to take the lead early in the second period at 15-14 with David Jenkins and Dale Johnson doing most of the damage before Maxcy's Steve Zagoria went on a six-point spree, four from the foul line, for a 20-15 lead. Terry Campell hit a jumper for Preston and Zagoria scored two more for a 20-17 lead. Skip Latt scored two baskets from outside and Zagoria hit another foul shot to give Maxcy a 25-17 lead before Kenny Ray scored at the buzzer to cut the halftime margin to 25-19. The teams were even in the last half with Maxcy outscoring Preston 22-20 in the third quarter and the two teams tying with 17 points each in the final stanza. Zagoria scored 11 points in the second half for Maxcy while Rich Lewendosky, Tom Kemp and Latt each scored six. Jenkins had 13 in the second period for Preston and Campbell had 12. Campbell scored seven of the last nine Preston points at the end of the game to pull Preston, who had been trailing by as many as 13 to within eight at the buzzer. Jenkins provided Preston with most of its rebounding during the game and Kemp took care of this chore for Maxcy. Zagoria had 20 points to lead all scorers. He was followed in the Maxcy lineup by Latt with 12. Lewendosky with 11 and Kemp with nine. Jenkins was the big gun for Preston with 18 points. Campbell had 15 and Johnson nine. PiKa and Maxcy will meet in a best of three series for the campus championship.
