Letter Itcket &V e o Dear Mr. Stepp: Thursday perhaps ushered in a new era at thie University--an era of student responsibility and the age of the Student Senate. I am referring to the ticket distribution plan for basketball tickets to our home games. We all remember only too well the situation last year wherein many students stood all night in the cold only to be told that there were no more tickets. This was certainly not the case Thursday. The credit for this tremendous turnabout is to be accorded to our representatives. the Student Senate. and particularily the Ticket and Distribution Committee of that body. The senate inherited a problem which the administration was unable or unwilling to solve. They took the task knowing that whatever solution they evolved, there would be complaints. However, through careful deliberation by the Committee, and further dliscussion. OPEN TO A LL. by the Student Senate, a plan emerged. Every student has an equal opportunity within his class standing to obtain admission to the basketball games. Those who have attended the University longer, have a greater probability of gaining admission, those just joining the Carolina Community have somewhat less chance--but all have an equal opportunity within their respective class. There were some tickets remaining in some of the class designations. This should not cast any reflections on the system. There will always be some reason for some students not to attend, and those tickets not distributed to them are given to the non-ticket holding students on a first come, first serve basis as it should be. The Ticket and Distribution Committee tackled a thorny problem, and I think solved it in a most equitable manner to the satisfaction of all with whom I have talked. Cooper is a sly and devious crusader, just like the radio Turkey Man. Cooper is conspicious only in his obscurity. Just go to campus events and you'll see one thing--L Eugene Cooper is absent. Go to the office of the Dean of Men and immediately you notice one thing--L. Eugene Cooper isn't there. Neither is his secretary, but that doesn't mean anything. There is a cute little coed there who knows only two phrases: "Dean Cooper is out" and "His secretary is the only one who can do that and she's out to lunch."
