First of all, sunny Florida wasn't and a drizzling rain - fell in termittenly during the game but that was the least of the Gamecock's worries in the 34-9 loss. Coach Paul Dietzel left the game muttering, "We're a better team than that," while Florida State fans thought ahead to a now probable bowl game bid. If it comes, it will make the fourth year in a row the Seminoles have gone to a bowl game. "They are a good team," defensive end Jimmy Pope said, "but we helped them. We turned the ball over three times in a row." With 6:19 still remaining in the first quarter the Gamecocks took the ball to the FSU 16 yard line and Billy DuPre booted a three pointer. It marked- the first time this year that the Gamecocks have scored in the first quarter and one of the few times that USC took an early lead. The momenteum stayed with Carolina and the next time they got the ball USC drove to the Florida State 36. DuPre trotted on the field for the field goal attempt and the entire Seminole defense was baffled when Tommy Suggs took the pass from center, faked a field goal attempt and fired a pass to Fred Zeigler for a first down.
