Chip Galloway will be in charge of
the Registration and Distribution
Committee. Brian Rines will direct
the Power and Responsibility

would be suspended for one day
and all interested students could
voice their opinions on the Asian
conflict. Hembree's resolution
called for a strike of classes by
students if the Administration did
not cooperate. The resolution was
tabled after brief discussion.

Many people and buildings have
fallen victims of Carolina's rapid
expansion over the years, but
residents of the Wheeler Hill area,
located around the Bates House,
have been spared at least of their
mail box.
This summer, USC asked the
federal post office to install a mail
box on the corner of Catawba and
Bull Streets where the Bates House
is located.
At the time, the post office was
not allowed to install additional
post mail boxes, they could only
relocate the existing ones.
The policy was due to an
economic measure that demanded
a cutback in mail box installations.
The post office decided to shift
the mail box to the Bates House, he
said, because that's where the
concentration of population would
be beginning this fall.
Therefore post office officials

Point system
terminated
at Cola. Hall
Due to deficiencies and
inequities, an experimental
disciplinary measure at Columbia
Hall last spring has been junked.
In lieu of study hall, last spring
Columbia Hall set up a point
system whereby a student was
given points for various in
fractions. When one accumulated
15 points, he was forced to move
out of the dorm without a refund or
any University housing.
About five students were forced
to move out of Columbia Hall last
spring under the point system,
according to Eugene Cooper, dean
of men.
Some of their parents com
plained to Cooper that the system
was too harsh and unfair. And
after further studies by his office,
it was decided to table the point
system until a more equitable
system can be worked out, Cooper
said.

walk
Brunton took a leisurely drive to
the Bates House this week to see if
the mail box had been returned to
its old corner.
But he soon encountered another
problem. His car broke down.
Brunton decided to put his set
back to good advantage by finding
out first hand what it's like for
Bates House residents who often
have to walk to classes and back
everyday. He walked back to his
office in the Administration
Building.
Brunton good-naturedly con
cluded yesterday that he has no
sympathy with the Bates House
residents. "It's not really that long
a walk." he said. "although the hill
is rather steep."
