Number two quarterback Randy Yoakum does not quite have the same skills, but he has, in abundance, the primary requisite needed by any good signal caller. Rangy soph Glen Morris has an exceptional throwing range and soph Tom Rhodes has the all-around skills similar to Suggs'. The wealth of quarterbacks is supplemented by a bevy of receivers led by Fred Ziegler. Like the former pro great Raymond Berry, Ziegler hardly looks like a great athlete because of his average size, ordinary speed and horn-rimmed glasses. Tight end Doug Hamrick is equally as potent because of his ability to concentrate on the football in flight. Since he is aligned near the football before it is snapped, the tight end will usually make his receptions "in traffic." This fact does not bother Hamrick, and after he makes his receptions Hamrick is a tough man to stop because of his great speed and 220 pound size. Other talented pass receivers will be sophs Jim Mitchell and split end Bill Freeman. Mitchell has moves and a style which is similar to Lance Alworth-speed and great ability to get off the ground to make a reception. Freeman does not have Hamrick's size at tight end, but he has good open field moves and thrives on combat. Bet your si We're only 4 b Two-hou, se, Dff ens The ideal offensive attack for which all football offensive strategists strive is one which makes equal use of the run and the pass. Last year's running game was hindered by formations which did not emphasize the powerful inside running game and hurt by injuries to Ben Galloway and Warren Muir. This spring the coaches installed the Power-I and Texas-T for mations to boost running inside the tackles and also the Cocks will have more depth in the backfield. Muir will start at fullback and if the hard-running '67 All Conference choice can avoid injury he will surely be in line for post season honors and a chance for a pro career. Last year's top rusher, Rudy Holloman, will start at tailback. Few will soon forget Holloman's twisting TD dash against Virginia last season. He has shown the same brilliance in fall drills. Probably the most demanding football position to play because of the constant pounding, shifting and blocking is running back. Coach Dietzel has assembled a veritable stable of ball carriers to back Muir and Holloman: fullbacks Tom Simmons and Byron Sistare and tailbacks Billy Ray Rice and Bob Miranda. All should play extensively. The "Z-back" (combination halfback flanker) position will be manned by the speedy Ken Walkup and Tom Trevillian. The presence of all this talent in the backfield and on the flank will not ensure success without a good blocking interior line. Most coaches would prefer a talented line over a talented backfield. With less than a week before the Duke opener two of the five in terior positions are still not settled. Dave DeCamilla, who has been a work-horse in fail practice, and Tony Fusaro will man the tackles. Promising junior Chris Bank returns at left guard. Dan Dyches and Ken Ross are still vying for the offensive center slot, and sophis Ken Wheat and Rich Moye are battling for right guard. If Dyches and Wheat win their spots this week, no one on the in terior offensive line will weigh less than 230. All this offensive fire power will go for naught if the defense is not consistent. Like the Cocks, Duke is also a team with a volatile offense, manned by such stars as quar terback Leo Hart, end Wes Chesson and fullback Phil Asack.
