Jones said such a statement had "been under discussion for quite some time" and added he felt stu dents should hear it before school ends so they could think about it over the summer. The entire statement follows: Men and Women of Carolina: We are all aware of the many crisis situations which have sur faced on colleges and universities around the country. THE BEACH BOY! Available BELK ROSE' 'Success To 'Su By BRUCE HOMCK Staff Writer "Success abroad will depend a great deal on our success at home," Lyman B. Kirkpatrick said here Tuesday. Nationalism, not communism, us ually causes insurgency, the former head of the CIA said. "It would be unwise to say that there will not be another Cuba, but as long as there are liberal-left governments, the chances are that it's less likely to occur," said Kirk. patrick, head of the Central Intel ligence Agency from 1962 to 1965. The receipt of aid from com munist nations does not mean that the recipient nation is yielding to communism, Kirkpatrick said. Furthermore, he said, commun ment T reviewed and possibly changed. But let's face it--a the laws, all the rules and regulations will never change attitudes if the minds that give birth to those attitudes are closed. So-while I must insist that you obey those laws and rules that are designed to protect the rights of us all, I must also challenge each and every one of you to carefully re-examine your personal attitudes toward your fellow Carolinians. We have seen what a polariza. tion between the races can do to a big city, neighborhood or an insti tution. We cannot allow continuous polarization on this campus. If we allow it to happen, then I fear for the future of this entire region. And I'll tell you why. I assume we have on this campus at this time a collection of the best minds and the most ambitious young people this region has to offer.
