Cliff ] By TY KELLEY Staff Writer Columbia Hall residents turned out in large numbers Thursday night to discuss with USC admin istrative officials the pros and cons of living in the Cliff House next fall. The meeting, the first large scale direct conference between adminis trative officials and students, was arranged by Danny E. Baker, presi dent of Columbia Hall. Things I With Coke After ( Aft< TRADE-I 4 I8 Richi< 1635 Iouse [IUs Harold Brunton, vice president for business affairs, said because Columbia Hall residents are being displaced, they a h o u I d get first hand information about the Cliff House. Brunton voiced his regret that there is no better compromise. "Basically Cliff House will be a package deal offering room and board for $420 per semester. This is the new approach to dormitory living across the country," Brun ton said. ,o Better oke .. hr Coke . .. VK 4ARK D UlO + nd Moll Detai The Cliff House will consist of three towers joined by a common balcony. One floor in each tower will house 60. All rooms are for two. There is a study lounge and three communal bath facilities on each floor. B r u n t o n pointed out toda:'s trend in dcrmitory living is toward individuality. "Students don't like a repetition in room arrangement. Cliff House will offer for the first time four different color schemes and furniture arrangement." Each room will also have tele phones, including for long distance calls, self-controlled heating and air conditioning u n i t s and day beds. According to Brunton, day beds are similar to those used by many hotels. "They are a combination bed and sofa that will be pulled out of the wall. This is designed to make the room more useful, and hopefully cleaner." Another Cliff House innovation will be the ground floor arrange ment. The blue print plans include a regular dining-cafeter'a area, in formation desk in the 1 o b b y, lounges, a mail center, gamerooms, etoje, 0 SeA * ONE HOUR OR ONE (BY REQUEST) 0 SPECIALIST IN CLEA AND TRIMS " 24-HOUR COIN-Ol L " SHIRTS lAUNDERED (ON HANGERS A " GOLD SEAL DRY C. The problem of walking to and from campus will be eased with the bus service and the elevated ramp leading from the Cliff House complex to the rear of the Under. graduate library. The question of adequate protec tion for parked cars was raised, as were questions concerning the noise made by five to seven trains that pass the area daily. Brunton said the parking lot will be fenced off and the University hopes to make some kind of suit able arrangements with the South ern Railroad Co. to relocate the tracks. Don Parlemento, campus direc tor of food service, said, "Cliff House residents next fall will have a full board plan, with unlimited seconds. And the service will be extended from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m." le stressed however, that the "package deal" is for only the seven day plan, and meals must be eaten at the Cliff House, except for lunch.
