Greek games begin there at 2 p.m. In past years, chariot racing has been the most popular sport. Other activities included in the celebration are relay races, wres tling matches, a pyramid-building contest and the Miss Aphrodite Contest. The Georgia Prophets will play during intermission. Each year a panel of men and women from the University com munity judge the various fraterni ties and sororities on their par ticipation in the week's activities in order to select a first place winner. Points are awarded for publicity, participation in the par ade, design and appearance of chariot, shields and togas, races held during the Greek Games and also for the wrestling matches. Judging this year are Dr. Charles W. Coolidge, professor of history; Dr. Judith Joyner, USC School of Education; and Dr. Theodore B. Cole, professor of biology. The overall winner in last year's competition was Phi Delta Theta. Guest speakers for Greek Week festivities throughout the week have included: William S. Zerman, executive director of Phi Gamma Delta; Jack R. Hotaling, assistant executive director of Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Mrs. Anne Marie Nix, national collegiate field adviser for Alpha Chi Omega; Jerry J. Nix, administrative assistant of the Lambda Chi Alpha national headquarters; and Mrs. William E. Helms, a Columbian, national president of Zeta Tau Alpha. Chairman for the 1969 activities entitled "New Dimensions" is Phil Truluck, a senior from Lake City. Co-chairman is Debra Wright from Walterboro. Dean Eugene Cooper is adviser. Truluck said Monday night that "everything is going fine right now. All we have to do is sit back and wvatch everything unfold. . . . This guy speaking at our banquet is amazing. lie's only 38. lie's really a tremendous person." So do we. But thi to an Olds than a coat of pair Greek With S Carolina's annual Greek Week concludes Saturday with a parade, the traditional Greek games and fraternity and sorority parties. Today's activities include the community service project and the Greek Week Awards Banquet. The 1969 community service project is the March of Dimes, the same as last year's project. Greeks will collect money in Columbia this afternoon from 2 to 5 in about 15 different locations. Proceeds will go to the National Foundation March of Dimes to help fight birth defects. The community service project last year raised over $2,100, exceeding the goal of $2,000. Featured speaker at the Awards Banquet tonight will be Allen Kaufmann of Los Angeles, Calif. Kaufmann is vice president of Lit ton Industries. He has a definite interest in the Greek Week pro gram as he is a member of the executive board of Chi Psi. Awards will be presented to night at the banquet to the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) Faculty/ Administrative Man-Woman of the Year, Fraternity Man of the Year, Sorority Woman of the Year, and several other awards will be pre senIted.
