Last year Frank McGuire was
asked to pick a word which would
describe his team; the choice he
came up with was "exciting."
Perhaps all McGuire teams can b
be termed exciting, if Carolina's

Tom Riker, Carolina's freshman a
version of Lew Alcindor, led the
Battling Biddies to a 55-50 win a
over Spartanburg Jr. College. d
Riker scored 19 points-hitting Ih
seven of nine shots from the floor el

"I think this frosh tearn will be
capable of playing excellent has
ketball, in addition to providing
tremendous help for the varsity
one year from now," freshman
Coach Don Walsh declared.
"But because of the schedule and
the fact that they'll be playing to
gether for the first time, it is lif
ficult to say whether this will be e
roflected in the won-lost column. s'
"When you take five boys from t
five different areas, it takes them
a while to get adjusted to each
other's style of playing," Walsh
continuel. "But they seem to he.
coming along fine in this depart-1
ment."
Concerning each individual schol
arship player, Coach Walsh says:
"Ton R i k e r is the big nian
we've been looking for. le was one
of the nost sought after players
in the c o u n t r y, and the ruost
sought after boy since Iew Alcin
