'You Can't Help
Getting Involved'
By LYNN RING
Staff Writer
Pretty, soft-spoken Linda C. Holley sits patiently and
composed surrounded by a semicircle of restless firsi
graders.
"Barbara, can you tell us where Spot has gone? Look at
the picture - what are Jack and Sally doing?"
Tiny chairs and tiny children. Whispering, giggling,
squirming. Trying to grasp what Jack and Sally are doing.
"Was this a good story, boys and girls?"
A chorus of approval.
Doing her practice teaching at South Kilbourne Elemen
tary School has brought pleasure and excitement to Linda
Holley. Enthusiasm radiates from her expression and voice
when she talks about her first graders.
Her practice teaching has also brought new responsibili
ties. First observing these children, and now working di
rectly with them, she has learned much about each child's
life at home and relationship with his family.
This knowledge enables her to deal with each child's
special problems. As Mrs. Holley says, "You can't help be
coming personally involved with them."
Besides putting theory into practice now, Linda is taking
an art course at the University. Mrs. Hlolley's husband is
also a teacher and they both plan to continue teaching in
South Carolina.
