Last tion this year. A pre-law major, Brown is from Ilinesville, Ga. Benny Galloway has had more ups and downs than perhaps any other player on the team. An All-ACC defensive back in '65, Galloway missed all of last year due to injury. He sustained a knee injury as this season be gan, and sprained an ankle last week against Wake Forest. The back from Easley has racked up 943 yards rushing thus far in his Carolina career and caught 31 passes. As a defensive back he made 79 tackles. Perhaps his finest perform ance came in the Gamecocks' vic tory over Virginia when he scored on two short passes which Bice Galloway Mauro Reeves Time he turned into long TD jaunts. Ron Bunch has made 31 tackles this year from his line backer spot. Last year he played at both middle guard and line backer, logging 121 m i n u t e s playing time. Johnny Gregory now ranks fourth among Gamecock receivers in total yardage and sixth in num ber of receptions. Dietzel names Gregory as one of the finest leaders on the team. He will be one of the captains against VPI. The split end from Aiken is a history major. lie snared three TD passes iii the Wake game, tying a school record set the week before by Freddie Zeigler. Bob Mauro was a starting of fensive tackle last y e a r, and when the G a m e c o c k s found themselves without a center, the Madison, N. J., senior stepped in. As captain of the b a s e b a II team last spring, Nlauro frac tured his kneecap early in the season, but came around soon enough to play football. In the Virginia game, Mauro graded a fantastic 98 percent in the game films. Itis means he missed onli one out of about 50 blocks. Mauro, according to Dietzel, is "the most consistent and out standing athlete on the team. He and Gregory are our finest lead ers." Wally 'Medlin is another South Carolina native, hailing f r o m Ehrhardt. Ie played 182 minutes in the secondary last ycar, primarily at safety, m a k i n g 2 8 individual tackles and 18 assists. Wally Orrel is a two-year let terman who has spent all his time in the defensive backfield. The senior from Savannah has been plagued with injuries while at Carolina, but still manages to stay in the game. Before injuries took him com pletely out of action last year, ho madle 41 tackles and intercepted three passes. Roy Don "Buitch" Reeves, a defensive hack from Americus, Ga., has played both offense and dlefense for the Gamecocks. Last year he sp)lit the season between o f f e n s e and defense, rushing '18 times for a 6.9 yard average and making 23 tackles. This year lhe intercepted two passes against Georgia and ran them back for 72 yards. G e n e Schwarting was con vertedl to tight end this year be cause of his blocking abilities, but has been hampered by in juries. Hie was a two-year starter at de fensive end, m)akig 65 tackles last year. Thc' B a m b e r g native has caught two ptasses for 20 yards this year and will be one of the captains tomorrowv. They lost a squeaker at the be inning of the season to Alabama, 1-7, but their offense has come long way eince then.
