Even if we found a site and the people ve re willing to move, we would have no indication of what. we Could afford." Dr. Chase told The Gamertock. "We hope the housing authority may he in a position to negotiate with Green S t r e e t Methodist Church and other property owners in this block sometime in early 1969." Chase said the housing authority "is determined to offer the Green Street Methodist Church a fair market value for their properties." The authority employs two inde pendent appraisers to determine how much they will pay for prop erty. "The appraisers can have no collaboration," Chase said. If their appraisals vary significantly, a third appraisal is obtained. Chase said the authority has re eeived one appraisal and is waiting ror the second. "Nobody is in a position to forecast what that offer will be,'' he said. An administration spokesman said the block that the church par tially occupies would be used as a "corridor" between the coliseum and the rest of the campus. Pro fessional schools would occupy the buildings in the block. In 1965 the University held a public hearing to outline its ex pansion plans for the following 20 years. "We felt we owed it to the community to indicate where we would be in 1985," the spokesman said. "We recognized there were going to be some areas where our plan ning would run into conflicts, but we tried to have these potential conflicts at a .ninimum. "In the areas that the University indicated for expansion, there were five churches," he said. The administrator said that four of the five have been successfully relo cated.
