professor of social work and di
rector of field work. All three

FIELD PRACTICE
The curriculum seeks to com
bine classroom instruction with
practical application of class
room techniques. During the
first year students will attend
class the first three days of the
week and work with a social
agency on Thursday and Fri
day.
While working with these agen

I selected cases to work with and
will be supervised by their pro
fessor. During the second year
the procedure will he reversed.
Classroom ins-ruction will be on
Thur.sday and Friday and agency
work on Monday. Tuesday and
Friday.
GREAT DINIAND
The pressing need for such a
school was emphasized by I)r.
Cook. He stated, "There is a de
mnand for 12,000 master's degree
social workers each year. Schools
can now develop 4,000 each year."
South Carolina is one of the
t few states that did not have a
School of Social Work in 1967.
USC once had a two-year pro
r gram, but it was closed in 1954.
- The school is located in tempo
rary headquarters at 1619 Green
Street. Permanent location for
the school has not yet been de
