George C. McGhee, former
chairman of the Policy Planning
Council of the State Department
and now ambassador to the Fed
eral Republic of Germany, will
speak on campus Wednesday on
"Western Europe and the United
States."
Sponsored by the USC Inter
national Relations Club, the pro
gram will be at the Conference
Institute Center at 1915 Gregg
St. at 8 p.m. McGhee will be avail
able for questions after the talk.
A graduate of the University
of Oklahoma, Dr. McGhee has a
Ph.D. from Oxford University,
which he attended as a Rhodes
Scholar.
Joining the state department in
1946, he became ambassador to
Turkey in 1951 and in 1958 was
appointed by President Dwight D.
Eisenhower to the President's
Committee on Military Assistance.
He was appointed the same year
as a consultant to the National
Security Council.
Dr. McGhee was appointed
chairman of the Policy Planning
Council and Under Secretary for
Political Affairs in 1961.

Fellowships are open to seniors
or recent graduates who plan to
study for a Ph.D. in a field com
mon to the undergraduate college.
They may not have taken any
graduate or professional study
beyond the baccalaureate.
Danforth Graduate Fellows are
eligible for four years of financial
assistance with a maximum an
nual living stipend of $2400 for
single Fellows and $2950 for
married Fellows, plus tuition fees.
Applications must be submitted
by Oct. 6 by those who have not
already taken the Graduate Rec
ord Examination.

BUS SERVICE
Shuttle-bus service from down
town Columbia to the Carolina
Stadium will be provided for the
remaining t h r e e USC home
games.
Bus runs begin at 5:45 p.m. at
the corner of Main and Blanding
streets and leave that corner
every seven minutes thereafter
until game time. The bus route
will pass up Main to Gervals and
Sumter streets and along Pen
dleton to South Main and the
stadium.
Buses will be marked "Fair
grounds" or "Olympia Avenue."
They will be parked in front of
the stadium following the games
with enough buses to provide
transportation back downtown for
all who rode a bus to the stadium.
