What evil lurks in the hearts of strong, able-bodied people
from USC on cold, rainy nights when the wind is howling
through the oaks?
Do their minds turn to spirits, drugs, Frankenstein, late
Dracula's Daughter movies? How about a cemetery near
Lake Murray? We have noticed that a couple of such bodies
recently acquired a small token of just such a lively noc
turnal outing; a fifteen-foot sign reading, "NO GRAVES
ARE TO BE OPENED OR COPING LAID without the per
mission of the Cemetery Committee," signed "The Cemetery
Committee."
If you're not the type that prefers such escapades may
we suggest that you just follow the red brick wall in front
of the glass wizzard building next to Russell House or per
haps the wet footprints that may lead from the reflection
pool in front of it to a fraternity house at 3:30 in the morn
ing.
If you are still in low spirits, then (we define spirits as
does our favorite "Webster's Fifth" under A, as a colorless,
volatile, inflammable liquid which is the intoxicating
principle in fermented and distilled liquors.) think of all
the sites on campus that, contrary to popular administrative
opinion, would make perfect places for beer gardens. You
may even use the new Russell House patio as an example.
Cocktales offers most sincere condolences to THE
LIGHBULB SNATCHERS. Bulb snatching is an ill
appreciated, somewhat outdated art, and perhaps it is sur
rounded with a few ill-omens, too. Just ask the Phi Delt
who saw the raven, the black cat, spilled his Slater salt and
walked under a ladder into room thirteen during a full moon.
May we suggest that on future scavenger hunts (If mem
bers are brave enough to have them) that you limit your
list of items to local scavengers or maybe old forgotten
Vodka bottles on College St. or in front of South Tower.
