Identified
As LSD
Tablets found in the room of a
USC student have been identified
by a Food and Drug Administra
tion analysis as LSD.
L. Eugene Cooper, dean of men,
said this week that laboratory tests
conducted by the FDA's Atlanta
lab found 60 milligrams of LSD in
eight capsules recently confiscated
from the Carolina student.
F i f t y milligrams is a "high
amount," Cooper said, making the
capsules almost "pure LSD."
The student has been suspended
for one year for violations of mari
juana regulations -plus suspected
violations regarding LSD.
Of five students recently issued
temporary suspension for mari
juana rule violations, one has been
readmitted to school by the Dis
ciplinary Committee. Two of the
five students will present appeals,
to the Committee Wednesday, and;
the remaining two have left the
University, Cooper said.
A sixth student, required to show
cause why he should not be sus
pended, has also appealed the de
cision.
Criminal charges are p e n d i n g
against all six on charges ranging.
from possession of marijuana to
sale and possession of illegal drugs.

The University Post Office has
reported numerous incidents of
vandalism which occurred during
the past six weeks.
Joe M. Lawrence, postmaster,
said approximately 60 glass panes
had been broken out of mail boxes.
He noted that no contents were
removed from the boxes.
He further issued a plea for stu

A curtailing of night service may
result if the vandalism continues,
the post office official said. If the
vandalism continues, an investiga

Some 200 of the bogus cards,

Another USC student has been

The case of a student who -
dressed as "Batman" and wearing
a gas mask - jumped in front of
a train has been nol-prossed. The
student was arrested and placed in
jail, Cooper said, but the case was
nol-prossed as a result of action
by the head of Southern Railway.
Action by the University is pend

A student convicted of disorderly
conduct and destroying private
property when he jumped up and
down on a resident counselor's car
was fined $50.50 by recorder's
court, Cooper reported.
Another student forfeited $50

Maurice Bessinger, head of the
S. C. Independent Party, said Tues
day, "Segregation is the peaceful
solution to the race problem; if it
is not solved peacefully there is
going to be a terrible race war or
a great repatriation movement."
Speaking at a luncheon at the
Baptist Student Center, Bessinger
objected to the recent Riot Com
mission report by saying, "It is a
laugh to blame the white people for
burning Detroit."
"'Te question of integration has
never been put to a national refer
endum," he continued, "and that
should be seriously considered."
Bessinger noted that he was the
first speaker of his philosophy to
talk at USC since the recent tur
moil in Orangeburg. He said that
he felt a majority of the students
on campus agree with his philoso
phy.
"If they don't," he said, "we have
gone far down the road toward
world government.
"If enough of the people in this
country think their parents were
wrong in the racial decisions, then
this country is lost."
Bessinger's Independent Party is
backing the presidential campaign
of George Wallace of Alabama.
Bessinger's second choice is Gov.
Ronald Reagan of California.
He said he would oppose Richard
Nixon because of his affiliation
with the Council on Foreign Re
lations, a group he calls "semi
