~i~ t After a couple of weeks of parties, pranks and superb intellectual endeavors (at Valentine Snow), it's Cocktales time again - the Carolina Community's link with the re served and sometimes conservative men and women of USC that gives us the reputation as reserved and sometimes con servative men and women of USC. Rush and Valentine parties have been the rule rather than the exception at Carolina r lately. We might have been toasting with a 1 i t t I e true spirits and tradition. Glancing in the rear of one t party we may have observed a reserved participant mourn ing the loss oT his beloved, Otis, or perhaps rushing to diag nose what condition HIS condition was in. At another party, Robin Hood expressed a strong desire for Hot Roast Duck in the halls (of Sigma Nu). But who wanted sandwiches anyway? Then, too, a few displaced Rebel t Yells in a fraternal contest may have been noticed when both KA and Sigma Chi stampeded (dates and live bands in cluded) to Gibson's Pond for a carefree Saturday night pledge party. Sigma Chi was the victor, although both fra ternities seemingly had valid reservations due to an error by the management. What did you say about that, KA's? People who live in the Honeycombs are getting a real bang out of their elevators when the doors open. Firecracker celebrations have made themselves apparent in the wee hours of the morning at South Towers, too. Our information comes from a little red bug (genus Volkswagen), who tempered the blasts with a harmonious bugle on the hill last week. Is it true that 10 per cent of the boys in K Dormitory are flower product fanatics? Contest statistics prove that those who aim to eat a slice of bread in 30 sec. are seldom success ful. They ex >lained to the girls that basic ,raining was really hard on the nen and that they could not even eave the Fort for the first three reeks or so. When they do have a hance to leave for a little wh'ile, he pair continued, their choice of mtertainment is limited. They can iang out in movies and bars or on street corners or they could go to .he USO for what they termed m o r e wholesome entertainment. rhey also explained to the girls that although the USO provided ndoor sports like pool and ping pong for the men, they also pro vided (lances with live bands to at tract more attention from the men ind give them a little more satis raction. The work that the sorority is loing with the USO is not, how wer, the only service project that they have planned for this semes ter. They will also work with the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and the State Hospital.
