A big reason for the Gamecock
basketball team's high pre-season
)-Ating in the ACC is their forward
center Gary Gregor.
The 6-7, 215, Gregor was last
year's ACC leader in rebounds with
an average of 13.3 recoveries per
game. He was a second +eam all
ACC selection and a first team all
state member.
Gregor, a 13-point per game
scorer last year, has .--d his
average to almost 20 points per
game thus far this year. "I don't
think there is any real reason for
my scoring more this year," stated
Gregor. "If anything, it would
have to be that I am making more
and better movements under the
basket and I have had a great deal
of luck."
Gregor does not think that being
the conference leader in rebound
ing last year has added any addi
tional pressures this year. "I just
go out in every game and try to do
my best and don't think about any
pressures," stated Gregor.
The big forward thinks that this
year's squad has a very good

Gregor considers the win over
Clemson last week as the most
pleasing of the season. "This is the
rirst time since I've been in school r

ip there. This includes all fresh
man games."
During the past year Gregor
visited the Boston Celtics try-out

around the country. "That week in
Boston was a very educational
trip, one of pure basketball. I think
I made a decent showing because I
ended up playing with the pros
during the second half of the week.
"One of the biggest differences
I noticed between the professional N
players and the collegians is that I
every one in the pros can shoot q
and shoot well. The endurance of a r
professional also has to be much I
greater than in college and each 3
player has to be tougher physically.

After graduation from high
chool, Gregor received only two
ull scholarship offers, one of which
vas from Frank McGuire. "The
-eason for my improvement since
ny graduation is my arsociation
vith Coach McGuire. I think he is
ne of the finest coaches in the
ountry and he has an excellent
taff behind him," commented
wregor.
Gregor is a management major
Lnd he and his wife Judy have a
en-month old son named Kenneth
rod. He credits his marriage as
he biggest factor in the improve
nent of his grades.
After graduation, the big for
vard plans to go into professional
masketball if the opportunity pre

nost probably be there because
ast year at the end of his junior
