title contenders.
Clemson's u p s e t victory over
N. C. State lofted the Tigers into
first place in the conference and
gave the Gamecocks a shot at a
three-way tie for the title. Satur

tell the story.
Orange and Sugar Bowl repre

important spectators at the Clem
son-State battle at Death Valley.
They saw State take a 6-0 half
time lead on two field goals by
Gerald Warren, then watched the
Tigers strike the fatal blow in the
third quarter.
Jimmy Addison fired a 28-yard
touchdown strike to Buddy Gore,
and Arthur Craig converted to
give the Tigers a 7-6 lead. Jacky
,Jackson zipped seven yards for the
final C I e m s o n score and Craig
added the extra point, giving Clem
son a 14-6 win.
The UNC Tarheels knocked down
the I)uke Blue Devils, 20-9, to end
their season on a fine note.

Saturday to give U. Va. a 4-5 rec
