"We had a free weekend," said
4Scott Brown, president of Phi Delta
Theta, "and there was a need for
our help."
Phi Delta Theta, in conjunction
with the Wesley Foundation, which
is financing and providing the tools
for the project, and a number of
private individuals, construction,
roofing and lumber companies is
in the process of converting an old
cow barn in the rear of the Wilkin
son Home for Girls to a study Hall.

student tutors from USC realized
that they had absolutely no ade
'luate place for the girls to study
or for instruction.
Fixing the old barn invoIves
quite a bit of carpentry, ground
maintenance and hard labor. The
fraternity m e m b e r s are in the
process of fixing the old building's
well-worn, leaky roof, inserting
windows, fixing doors, painting the

If the other chapter accepts, the
bet is on. After the game, the
losers are obligated to send the
winning fraternity a cowhide skin
with the fraternity crest, the year,
and the score of the game on it.

colors, and is worth about $30.
The prize skin conies from the
1957 game when Carolina upset
nationally ranked Texas, 27-21.
Alabamna will be next to receive
the challenge.

efforts to leave the building and
surrounding grounds clean and at
tractive.
The participants in the project,
however, realize that their efforts
alone will not accomplish their -
goal. After the building is reno
vated, the orphanage will still he -
in dire need of adequate heating -
facilities for the study hall build
ing, study facilities, such as desks
or tables and chairs, and study
lamps.

'ational Panhellenic Conference
n New Orleans Nov. 3 through 5.
The delegates were Ella Reese
dayer, president, and Karen Rus

The bids to the conference are
onsidered an honor because only
2 of the 500 councils received in

At the conference, the delegates
net the national officers of the
)articipating sororities and at
ended discussions and seminars
on sorority problems on the various
ampuses. After the business meet
