studies mrjors at USC, will be
among 260 student leaders invited
to the U. S. Military Academy at
West Point, N. Y., for a study of
"The Sputnik Decade" Dec. 6-9.
They will join representatives
from more than 100 American and
Canadian colleges and universities
at the S t u d e n t Conference on
United States Affairs (SCUSA).
The conference is planned for
exceptionally well-qualified seniors
whose study in international rela
tions, political science or related
social sciences has prepared them
for incisive discussions of U. S.
foreign policy.
At the conference, each student
will be assigned to a round table
for special discussions on U. S.
policies in a particular geographic
area. The conference will also in
clude addresses by outstanding
American statesmen and scholars.
In the 19 years that the military
academy has sponsored SCUSA, it
has become one of the most pres
tigious undergraduate student con
ferences in the nation.

walt Professorship in Chemistry
at USC through the USC Educa
tional Foundation.

honorary doctor of science degree
from Carolina at the June com
mencement in 1952 when he was
commencement speaker, is honor
ary chairman of the Board of Di
rectors and former president of
the 1)u Pont Company.
He is also a charter member of
the Chair Endowment Club of the
U SC Educational Foundation.

walt and 1)r. Carpenter have been
close friends for many years. Dr.
Sumwalt joined Du Pont after col
lege graduation and the friendship
began soon after.

cational Foundation has receiv-ed
since it was established nine year-s
ago.
