Foreign
Students
Register
Twenty new foreign students
have joined the ranks of Carolina
undergraduate enrollees this fall.
A total of approximately 90
foreign students are enrolled.
Indian students, 14 of them,
comprise the greatest number
from a foreign country on cam
pus.
Six Warwick (English) ex
change students are enrolled for
the fall semester.
South American countries repre
sented on campus include Vene
zuela, Colombia a n d Panama.
Other countries include Greece,
Australia, Cuba, Aruba and Syria.
"The majority of the foreign
students, h e r e for studies in
m a t h, science or engineering,
have been having difficulty with
their English courses," accord
ing to Ted Ledeen, USC Foreign
Student advisor, "so this year
an English course was started
for foreign students to cope with
their special problems."
With the hope of increasing ex
change in ideas among students
of foreign countries, the Interna
tional Students Club has been es
tablished. It is open not only to
foreign students, but also to any
other student at Carolina. Mr.
I.edeen, co-sponsor with the Rev.
Jerry lanmet, feels that the club
will provide a chance to learn facts
about foreign countries not found
in history books.
