Girls Assist
Faculty, Staff
In Registering
Faculty members and other em
ployees of the University were
rescued from some of the more
troublesome aspects of voting by
the Town Girls recently.
Every ten years voting re-regis
tration occurs. This time members
of the Town Girls' Association
went to the R i c h l a n d County
Courthouse and got the forms to
distribute to University personnel.
They also obtained a list of
notaries public to save the em
ployees the t r o u b l e of finding
someone to notarize their registra
tion. The usefulness of their efforts
was proven when people continued
to call for more forms.
The Town Girls' Association is
an organization c o m p o s e d of
women students not living in resi
dence halls. Meetings are held bi
weekly.

to life on the Drayton Hall stage
Oct. 25, 26 and 27, as the Uni
versity Theatre presents Edgar
Lee Masters' stirring "Spoon River
Anthology."
The setting is a cemetery in
Spoon River, where the ghosts of
the town's f o r in e r inhabitants
come to life and relate their funny,

This is the topic for the year as
USC's debate team readies itself
for a n o t h e r year of talk and
travel. Under the guidance of Prof.
M. G. Christophersen, the varsity
debate team will begin its 1967-68
season this weekend with an ex
perienced crew.
With one exception all of last
year's veterans have returned, and
many new freshmen have gone out
for the ever-expanding "sport" of
debate.
Spearheading the team will be
last year's n u m b e r one team,
juniors Bob and Tom Salane, and
last year's number two team, Mike
Thomas and Bruce Thompson.
The 1967-68 season opens for USC
today with a two-day debate at
Middle Tennessee State Univer
sity. Next Thursday, Friday and
Saturday, Bob and Tom Salane
will represent Carolina at the Uni
versity of Kentucky as the top 18
teams in the nation meet for the
first time. On Oct. 20 and 21, Mike
Thomas and Bruce Thompson will
go to the University of N o r t h

USC's first home debate will be
on Nov. 9, 10 and 11, when debate
teams from 40 colleges and uni
versities east of the Mississippi
assemble on the Carolina campus
for an invitational meet.
In February, the debate team
will hold a clinic on campus for
debate teams of South Carolina's
high schools.

This is the reason for the An
nual Alumni Fund campaign. The
funds raised in this campaign will
go to the Educational Foundation
and will help provide professor
ships, graduate fellowships, under
graduate scholarships, research
grants and equipment.
The campaign, involving m o r e
than 2,000 alumni, was kicked off
Friday, Sept. 22, at alumni meet
ings in Hartsville and Florence
with President Thomas F. Jones
as the principal speaker of both
events.
