"I also wanted to help my own
students in buying paint and can

receive two-thirds of the amount
for which their work is sold.
"It's amazing how the kids feel
when they get $35 or $10 for their
paintings. It's an incentive for
them to paint more. And often the
buyers like to follow the progress
of students whose work they have
bought," Yaghjian said.
In 1956, 125 paintings and other
items were sold, but only $172 was
netted. L.ast year the auction
brought $2,807, just under this
year's amount.

Men Try
To Better
Cafeterias

Dean of Men L. Eugene Cooper
announced a drive for "better
dress" in campus cafeterias next
year following a meeting of the
l Cafeteria Committee recently.
The I)ean, chairman of the com
mittee, said that dorm government
presidents are being contacted in
hopes of encouraging them "to
help in the matter." He termed
dress in the Russell House cafe
teria and Columbia Hall "good, as
far as I know."

I and South cafeterias, hence the
dorm government help desired.
The case of 12 Carolina men and
two Columbia College girls ar
rested for disturbing the peace
during an apartment party is
under investigation by the Dean of
Men's office. Five of the 12 were
acquitted and the others forfeited

Two cases are pending for to
<iay's final meeting of the Univer
sity Disciplinary Committee. One
is for alleged falsification of an
excuse and the other is that of the
accur'ed bottle thrower from an
earlier fight involving three stu
dents.
In a recent meeting the Co
lumbia Hall student judicial
board recommended five hours
of work duty each to two stu
dents charged with making ex
cessive noise. The committee
also recommended a student for
IFrobation and study hall for
drunkenness and disorderly con
duct.

warning for the remainder of the
semester for singing after being
told to stop. The )ean of M''n ap
proved all the recommendations.
The I )ean assigned a year of
disciplinary probation to a student
charged with exposing himself in
a car returning from the Rapids.
