PERRILL Office Seekers Agree Against Demonstration Organized student demonstra ;ns should not be employed at Carolina at this time, candidates for student body president agreed Thursday. Participating in a speech ses sion for major student govern ment office seekers, Sammy Drew and Peter Perrill presented their platforms and responded to audi ence questions. "I do not believe at this time that student demonstrations can be effective in what they are trying to do," stated Drew. "I believe in going through legal channels." Drew, In Pres Peter Perrill Reveals Aims In Platform In the race for president of the student body, Peter Perrill is run ning against Sammy Drew.. Peter Perrill is a junior pre law major from Rock Hill. He served as vice-president of tle sophomore class and currently is president of Kappa Alpha and Circle K. He is vice-president of KSK and a member of Blue Key. He has served as chairman of a legis lative committee of the Student Senate and was the delegation chairman for State Student Legis lature. le is on evaluation committees of both academic responsibility and orientation and is an inspector of AFROTC group I. He is chairman of orientation and served on the elections com mittee. He is a member of IFC, has served as treasurer of KSK and was named to the all-fratern ity basketball team in 1964-65. PLATFORM As I understand it, the purpose of a political platform is to pre sent what a candidate considers the key issues involved in a cam paign and the stand he plans to take on each. In line with this definition, I submit the following outline of what I consider to be the most important matters con cerning Student Government as (Continued on Page 3) Tnopposed President Denny A. Royal, a rising junior, is running unopposed for the posi tion of student body vice-presi dent. He attended the USC at Aiken where he received an award for the highest academic average at that center for the school year 1965-1966. Royal was also a mem ber of the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Royal came to the Aiken center as a transfer from Emory Univer sity. While on campus here in Co lumbia, he has held several posi tions. The polls will open at 10 a.m. and will close at 6 p.m. Off-campus students must vote ac cording to schools. Dorm students will vote according to their residence halls. Miss Pichard has been a runner p to Miss Lubbock, Texas, in the op ten finalists in the Miss nhrnet and Black contest and a ontend Race Drew Wants To Promote Closer Ties Opposing Peter Perrill for the office of president of the student body is Sammy Drew, rising sen ior. Sammy Drew is a pre-med ma jor from Charleston. He is a mem ber of IFC and has served as both hall and orientation counselors. He has attended State Student Legislature and was listed on the Freshman Honor Roll. PLATFORM I am running on a platform which stresses .he better relation ship of students to student gov ernment and student government to the students. In that vein and in the areas of student rights, dorm governments, cultural op portunities, etc. I propose the following: 1) That student government es tablish better communication with the student body through the pub lication of a bi-weekly bulletin.
