M oreno traced the relat.ion ship of Castro to c mmiinism from the early stages of the pe rpara tion for revolution against the Iulgenio Batista regimnle in Cuba to the reSent stalematt between Castroism and the Soviet Union. Eugene Cooper, dean of men, is attending a three-day meeting Research Continues By Grant For the fourth straight year Dr. C. B. Poole, USC professor of physics, has been given a grant of $119,000 to continue personal research in the field of cancer. The grant was bestowed by the National Institute of Health, which is a part of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. By using the experimental tech nique of electron spin resonance Dr. Poole is experimenting to fin( why certain molecules p r o d u c 4 canllcer and others do nlot." The grant is for the establih ment of a Ilead Start Evaliatim and Research Center to study early childhood development. The ccn ter will be under the School of Education's Committee on Educa tional Research, headed by I)r. Myles I. Friedman. The committee plans t) launch immediately a massive testing program in which at least 1000 pre-school children will be teste(i between now and September. A g r a n t for $90,000 was awarded the committee earlier this year for its Graduate Edu cational Research Training Pro gram, which is the only one of its kind in the Southeast and one of few in the nation. The pro gram may have national impor tance because of the shortage of persons specializing in educational - research. The committee also serves as center for the Regional Educa ionalI Laboratories of the Caro inas and Virginia, with Dr. Fried man as director of research.
