Men's Rush
Nears Close
With Smokers
The final stag smokers for
spring semester rush will be held
Friday from 7 to 9 a.m. in the
fraternity houses. These smokers
are by invitation only.
Immediately after the f i n a l
smokers will begin the silent period
of rush. From 9 p.m. on Friday
until after pledging on Saturday
rushees will not be allowed to talk
to fraternity men. Failure to ob
serve 'this rule will mean that the
rushee is automatically dropped
from the rushing program.
PLEDGING
Rushees will pick up bids at 2
p.m. Saturday in Room 207 of
Russell House. Each rushee must
select the bid he wishes to accept
and turn any other bids in. He will
then go directly to the chosen fra
ternity house for pledging.
Over 140 Carolina men have
participated in second semester
fraternity rush. Beginning on Feb.
1, the first day of registration,
rush activitie5 have continued for
a week and a half. Rush functions
have included s t a g g e r e d open
house drop-ins on Fraternity Row,
stag smokers by invitation and off
campus parties by invitation.

OPEN RUSH
Open rush will begin Monday,
Feb. 13, for all men who have
paid the $2.00 fee at the Dean of
Men's office. Open rush will last
until March 18.

pleted a "Help Week" project in
the Columbia area.

Conversation can become stilted
and stale after both rushees and
fraternity men have gone through
the traditional "W h e r e are you
from?" and "Do you know so-and
so?" and "What is your major?"
But that the uneasiness that
sometimes comes when young men
try to impress other young men is
