QUESTION: It was printed in IN
QUIRY last year that the park
ing meters are on Bull Street to
insure parking spaces for peo
ple who wish to make short
errands and to pick up dates.
Why do the meters only take
nickels and dimes which allow
one hour and two hours parking
when it only takes a few min
utes to pick up a date? Also,
many times people have pennies
and not nickles or dimes.

QUESTION: I understand that
some other colleges and univer
sities remove failing grades
from transcripts when the grade
is made up by good marks. I
would like to know why USC
does not do this.
ANSWER: Rollin E. Godfrey, Di
rector of Admissions and Regis
tration, informed INQUIRY that
prior to June, 1957, the hours
carried on a failing grade were
subtracted from a student's
grade point ratio when it was
made up. The failing mark was
still recorded on the record,
however. Now both grades are
placed on the record and are
used for GPR.
QUESTION: Is it not poor public
relations to charge visitors for
parking in front of the Adminis
tration Building?
ANSWER: The reason visitors are
required to pay for parking in
front of the Administration
Building is to help control traf
fic turnover, INQUIRY was told
by M. I). Tavenner, Director of
Institutional Research. As there
are between 8 and 12 parking
spaces in this area, and in a
normal (lay there are between
:15 and 50 visitors to the build
ing, the University must have
sonic way to control spaces for
these people.
