Aqua-S By TONY SMITH V Asst. Sports Editor d The USC swimming team and i coaching staff "pooled" their tal enta in the University pool last Friday and Saturday night to pro vide Carolina with its first aqua spectacular. Entertainment began with a big splash at 8 p.m. Friday when Carolina's varsity swimming ace Alex Alexander was challenged by Barnie Giese, 10-year-old son of Dr. Warren Giese of the USC Physical Education Department, to a 25-yard sprint race. Naturally, everyone expected to see one of two things happen: Either Alexander would swim slow enough for young Giese to beat him or swim two lengths of the pool while the youngster was making one. Such was not the case. Giese won with the aid of a rope lying on the pool bottom and pulled from the dark recesses of a corridor at the end of the pool by some unknown assistant. The evening's second act had many spectators on their feet, try ing to keep from getting wet. lut only confetti poured from a bucket dashed at a lxwrd-tA)ter (Vie Laughlin) by a carpenter (Diving Coach John Candler) for twice knocking him in the water. Candler and Laughlin also com bined their talents on the trampo line to produce the water show's third act. They demonstrated both the basic and more difficult stunts - on the trampoline as well as per forming a comedy routine. The evening's fourth act was a serious demonstration of (lives. ranging from the basics to ably performed Olympic (lives.
