USC Educational Television will
be on the scene at Carolina
Stadium this weekend, as it has
been for all home games, to moni
tor grid action on the sidelines and
film activities for future instruc
tion.
The origin of the project was in
1963. At this time Dr. Thomas F.
Jones suggested that ETV offer
videotape of the football games
at half-time. The project gradually
progressed. Now, instant replays
can also be produced when desired
by the coaches.
The proMuction has its main
set-ups in the press box and also
in the control room located in
the team's dressing room at Caro
lina Stadium.
In the press box there are two
cameras. One is powered with a
zoomar lens which can limit the
desired area for close-ups, the
other camera is used to give a
broad view of the field.
The pictures from the two
cameras are transmitted by cables
to monitors in the control room.
Then the technician in charge re
lays the most beneficial play to
the monitors on the sidelines in
the dugout.
The vameras and monitors are
set up a day before the game, so
that there can be a check on the
Workiig order.
The OVer-all set-up and produe
t ion requires about eight hour on
the day of the game. Final camera
set-up commences at 4:00. Work
ing conditions are again checked
and rechecked and videotaping he
ins at 8:00. After the game the
eqiipment is then transported to
