USC Sailing
Club Exhibits

The Thank Helen, one of the
three Penquln class boats owned
by USC Sailing Club, was on dis
play in front of Russell H o u s e
Monday and Tuesday.
Members of the club were on
hand to answer quetions and in
terest students in joining the club.
In addition to their three boats
the club is planning to acquire a
fourth.
Members sail twice weekly from
1 p.m. until dark and each week
end. New members are a u g h t
sailing skills If they need them.

the completion of an entire re
modeling of the area.
Near the end of last semester,
the Triumvirate Residence Gov
ernment approached the Adminis
tration with the idea of renovating
the old lounge area, making it

University Players, under the
direction of Professor Russell
Green, will present its first pro
duction of the year, "The Time of
Your Life," at Drayton Hall, Oct.
27, 28, and 29.
First presented on Broadway
in 1939, the comedy won the
Drama Critics' Circle Award and
the Pulitzer Prize for author Wil
liam Saroyan. Set in a San Fran
cisco waterfront saloon, the story
involves one man's search for hap
piness and answers to the far
reaching enigmas of life.
Cast in two of the major roles
are newcomers to the Carolina
stage, Bob Tracy as Joe and Terry
Lamb as Nick, the barkeeper. In
addition, five veteran performers
of the University Players will be
appearing in the play: Don Mc
Mahon as Dudley, Chuck Nixon as
Harry, Jim E. Quick as Kit Car
son, Barrie Frey as the society
lady and Truman Henderson as
the society gentleman.

Director Green revealed that
members of the cast have begun
rehearsals and will continue to re
hearse from 7-10:30 p.m. Monday
through Friday and from 2-5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday until the
presentation of the play.
He also disclosed that two
minor parts, those of the drunk- L
ard and Wesley, an undernour
ished piano player, have not yet
been cast and anyone wishing to 1
try out for these roles may con
tact him within the next few days.
"The Time of Your Life" will
be staged in a conventional set
and will require only one scene
change throughout its three acts.

contributed to the history of jazz.
His program will include jazz in
the New Orleans style and a blues
improvisation.

Class Offers
Reading Skills,
Techniques
The Counseling Bureau of the
University will for the second
year offer a course in Reading and
Study Skills to all interested Uni
versity students.
Emphasis during the course will
be placed on the following areas:
effective study techniques, vocabu
lary development, comprehension,
critical reading skills, and speed
of reading.
Three sections have been sched
uled. Section A will meet Mon
(lay and Wednesday from 2:00
3:30; Section B Monday and Wed
nesday 3:30-5:00; Section C Tues
day and Thursday 2:00-3:30.
The course will last for six
weeks.
Students who are unable to
register due to schedule difficul
ties will be able to sign up for the
second session, beginning in No
vember.
A $5.00 fee will be collected
during the first class meeting to
defer the cost of supplies.
Interested students should sign
up at the Counseling Bureau, lo
cated on the second floor of the
lendleton Building, as soon as
possible. Classes will begin Mon
day, October 3rd.
