Folk Sing Scheduled For WUS By BETH BROWN and ELEANOR MATHFSON Staff Writers The USC YM-YWCA is spon soring a Folk Sing tonight at 8 *- p.m. for the benefit of Work University Service. The one-to-two-hour concert ir the Field House features the In. ternational Silverstring Submarine Marching Jug Band, the Jesters Tom Kennedy, Judi Mundi, Hugh Munn, and a Spanish Group. Jack Kennedy of WNOK Radic will be master of ceremonies. Charge for the evening is 5( cents for students and $1.00 foi adults. There will be folk singing witi group singing. Dress will be cas ual (slacks). Students shoul< bring blankets for sitting on th( floor. The money raised will be giver to WU1S to hell) finance one o their projects, found in 30 coun tries. These projects include build ing health centers, cafeterias dormitories and book stores. Rogers Jr. associate professor of history, will be initiated Saturday as the first faculty members to re ceive honorary membership in Phi Beta Kappa at USC since 1957. Phi Beta Kappa, the society of scholars, will also initiate 55 stu dent members, scholars who have met the high academic require ments of Phi Beta Kappa, oldest of the Greek letter societies and dedicated to recognition of schol arly achievement. Only eight other faculty mem-' bers have received honorary mem bership in the 410-year history of the USC chapter. Sen. Donald Russell will be speaker at the dinner meeting Sat urday. Both Sen. Russell and his son. Donald Russell Jr., are mem bers of the US(' chapter. Alpha )f South Carolina. The chapter's leaders, headed for 19f5-!#* by President Wifliamn A. Foran of the history depart ment, were concerned that few honorary members and alumni members had been elected in the 40-year history of the chapter. This year also, requirements for membership were readjusted to conform with the recently installed system of student grading at the University. Dean Figg joined USC in 1959 as professor and dean of the School of Law. Educated at the College of Charleston and Colum State's Clerg, For Ecumeni Clergymen from throughout the state will gather at the University on May 2 for a one-day interde nominational Ecumenical Dialogue. The Rev. D r. Bonaventure Hr wn chaplain of the USC Roman Catholic student center and member of the Bishop's Ecumeni cal Council, will preside over the dialogue. "Church and lZenewal in Our World." The dialogue is sponsored by the chaplains of the religious centers at USC. A morning worship service will be led by the Rt. Rev. Gray Tem pie, bishop of the Episcopal diocese of South Carolina. Carl Stepp of lennettsville and Martha Ellerbe R o g e r s of High Point, N. C. will receive scholarships which can be worth as much as $6,000 each. The scholar ships were established this year by the USC Educational Founda t ion. Stepp intends to rnajor in jour nalis-m at USC and plans a career as a writer. He is president of the Student Council at Hennettsville liigh School and is a winner this year of an award from the Na tional C o u n c i I of Teachers of E:ngl ish.
