Student AsksOffI The USC Student Union is part of the educational program of the college. Presently the Student Union is seeking new officers, committee chairmen, and committee members Application deadline for the first two categories is April 20; com mittee members may join the Union at any time during the year a vacancy occurs. Further infor mation on how to apply is avail able at Russell House information desk. Upon payment of student ac tivity fees, students automatically become a member of the USC Student Union. The Board of Governors is com posed of eight students, two fac ulty members, and two members (of the administration. The Board membership of twenty-six has the limitation that no one or ganization may have more than twenty-five percent of the total membership. The president is a major student body officer elected in the general election. A candidate must be of junior or senior standing and must have a cumulative grade point ratio of at least 2,25 as well as having served on the Union for a minimum of one full regular semester and must be serving the semester he applies for office. 'rhe duties of the treasurer are to submit a financial report on all Union expenditures. PAM VESTAL Secretary Dance The committee opened the fall session with the performance ol "13en E. King and his Orchestra' on Sept. 20 in Township Audi torium. Also presented on this program were Little Royal and the Swingmasters. For Homecoming Weekend the "Serendipity Singers" were pre sented in concert on Friday night, Oct. 29; dance with "Mary Wells,' "King Curtis and his Band," and the "Medallions" was presented or Saturday night, Oct. 30. For Clemson Weekend, the com mittee presented the "Supremes," the "Shirelles," "Julius Cobb and the Swinging 60's," and the "Lov ing Spoonful" on Nov. 19. The attendance at this performance was in excess of 3,900, thereby eclipsing the record set on Home coming Weekend with 3,873 at tending. Dec. 10 and 11 wrapped up the Iseason's entertainment with per formances by the "Righteous Brothers" and "Dionne Warwick' in concert on Friday night, and a semi-formal dance with "Si Zent ner and his Orchestra" on Satur day night. Records for student attendance to this semester's performances were considerably higher than ever before with a total attendance for dances and concerts of 16,726. On March 23 "Roger Miller" and the "Goodtime Sing ers" played in concert before 1,441 students. For Spring Weekend the "Bitterend Singers" performed be fore .100 students on Friday night, while Saturday night was a suc cess with 2,500 students attending a performance by "Lou Christy," the "Toys," and the "Medallions." The "Ramsey Lewis Trio" put on a show before approximately 1,000 persons on Sunday afternoon. Ed Tucker serves as chairman of dance and concert. Married Students The committee held a party for married students and wives on. Dec. 4 with a turnout of approxi mately eighty people. A study lounge for the married students has been the main project for this semester. Two proposals drawn up by the committee and presented to the administration were con cerned with family infirmary privileges in case of emergency and special tickets for the wives to athletic events. Chairman of married students committee is Frank Free. Secretarial The secretarial committee is an a p p o i n t e d sub-committee with chairman 'ice-chairman, and com mittee members. Its duties are to assist the Executive Secretary and the Executive Board in the keep ing of records and the correspond ence of the Union. Sue Price is secretarial chair man. Burlington Industne c' or Committees ities mittee is a talent show which gathers the finest talent on the campus in a professional show for the enjoyment of the student body. The R. G. Bell Camp promotion program is also the responsibility of this committee. The Bell Camp has been used by over 16,000 stu dents, faculty, and staff during the past year and a half. Elbie Conard is chairman of the activities committee. Fine Arts This committee sponsored an art exhibit during Homecoming Weekend, composed of the works of Susan Anderson Mathis and Lilia iloefer. At Christmas the works of Mark Freeman, "Aspects of the CitN," were displayed. Also sponsored was "An Evening of Poetry" with Mrs. Warren Giese. DJuring the spring semester an exhibit from Olde Berger, "Child's World," was on display in the Rus sell House. South Sunday Musicale w%as initiated during March of this semester featuring students and professors from the University \lusic department. Fine arts chairman is Judy Cros land. The Union s Activ The Activities Committee has completed plans for two -sets of composites to be on display in the Russell House. One set of com posites is to be of the officers of the Student Body arid Class Offi cers, while the other is to be of the Student Union Executive Board. 'rhe purpose of these com posites is to make it possible for the students to know their student officers. The "Carolina Life Photo Con test" is held each year to compile amateur photography from tal ented students to display in the Russell House. The winners of the contest are presented with trophies or certificates for their contributions. The primary project of this com Hospitality The committee decorated the Russell House for all major holi da. s of the fall semester and pur chased two flower arrangements for permanent use in the Russell House. A drop-in for the Singing Boys of Monterrey and invited guests was sponsored by the com mittee, with the assistance of the Artist Series. The annual Christ mas party for the children of the married students and staff was held with very good response from the children. Recreation Tournaments In the area of hilliards, Billy Staton, internationally renowned pocket-pul profes- ional. gave an exhibition in the newly renovated gameroomll on Dec. 9. Bridge is under the supervision of Mrs. Liz Simpson. The program has been expanded *o include 10 talles of duplicate bridge. The Inter-Carq 'ina Bowling League has continued with 15 teams clompeting weekly at Star Lanes Bowling Center.
