Eight Carolina coeds are com
peting for the five female varsity
cheerleading posts.
Selected in preliminary tryouts
were Ally Bell, Donna Davis, Jean
Godwin, B a r b a r a Huitt, Pam
Hutto, Patti Knight, Virginia Ann
Reeves and Anne Stephens.
Alley Bell, a sophomore educa
tion major from Columbia, includes
as her activities varsity cheer
leader, Student Union Artist
Series Committee and Chi Omega
pledge trainer and song leader.
Freshman Latin major Donna
Davis is from Kingsport, Tenn.
She is a member of Zeta Tau
Alpha sorority and was a high
school cheerleader.
Jean Godwin of Columbia is a
freshman majoring in psychology.
Publicity
During the past semester the
primary medium used for pub
licity has been posters which were
printed on the Union sign machine.
For the larger events, fliers, place
cards on cafeteria tables, and float
ing signs suspended by helium
filled balloons. The Gamecock,
WUSC and commercial radio have
also been used. This committee is
the central point of the Union in
that all programs are useless until
the Student Body is informed of
Union programs. The committee
has encountered the problem of
students removing publicity before
the performances have been com
pleted thus depriving other stu
dents of the knowledge of many
Union activities.
Serving as chairman is Barry
HIarrelson.

Calendar (See
The Calendar Committee has re
viewed samples from other Uni
versity and College Unions and
formulated plans for both semester
and monthly supplement calen
dars. This committee sent out re
quests for scheduled events to all
University departments and or
ganizations at the beginning of
each month. From these schedules
and information as to Student
Union events, Township events,
Columbia Music Festival, and Art
Museum events, the committee has
compiled and distributed a com
plete fall s e in e s t e r calendar
printed by the University Printing
Service.
A calendar for the months of
November and December contained
the corrections of events listed in
the semester calendar and such
additional information as had been
gathered. The January calendar
contained the complete final exam
schedule and supplemental events
not listed on the fall calendar.
The committee then published a
February, a March. and an April
May calendar. Plans are now
underway for the printing of a
calendar for the ensuing summer
sessions. Much of the success of
