Five C For Se Election as secretary of the stu dent body is a five-way race this year. Competing are Betsy Boyle, Patti Saylor, Jan Smith, Kit Sossa mon, and Sherie Stockman. Miss Boyle is a junior English major from Lynnfield, Mass. She is pledge trainer and formerly on the executive committee and ac tivities chairman of Pi Beta Phi. A member of Student Senate, Eu phrosynean Literary Society, New man Foundation and Epsilon Ep silon Epsilon, Miss Boyle was a delegate to S. C. State Student Legislature and to Southern Uni versities Student Government As sociation. Believing "the secretary of the student body can make or break the efficiency of student govern ment," Miss Boyle is an advocate of strengthening communications between students and student gov ernment. "I propose that the minutes of the senate meeting be displayed on a student government bulletin board which would be in a conspic uous place in the Russell House. The minutes would also be placed on bulletin boards in classroom buildings. The secre tary would also publish a list of the absences of the senators. Miss Saylor is a sophomore art major from Lenoir, N. C. She is treasurer of the sophomore class and was on the Freshman Honor Roll. She is information officer for Angel Flight and on the stand ards committee of Zeta Tau Alpha, in which she formerly served as assistant treasurer. Her platform urges "better cor respondence b e t w e e n senators, publications, and the s t u d e n t body." She also promises to strive "to aid other Student Body offi cers, keep more efficient order of records, and give extra time to revising the Constitution." Miss Smith, a junior English major from Lexington, was secre tary of her freshman class. She is social chairman of Kappa Delta in which she has served as cor responding secretary, historian and elections chairman. On the Stu. dents Speakers Bureau, a May Court Attendant, and a member of the Lutheran Students Association she was formerly a member of the Y and the Student Union Dance and Concert Committee. In her stated platform Miss Smith said, "I believe there should be better communication betweer the student body officers, govern ment, and the student body. This gap should be and could be bridget by officers who have the time ability, and desire to do so. Miss Sossamon, is a Gaffney junior history major. She is vice president of the junior class; a member of Alpha Order, Theta Sigma Phi, Student Senate, Pan lellenic Council, and Epsilon, Ep silon Epsilon; president of Delta Delta Delta which she formerly served as vice-president and his torian; and has been a delegate to S. C. State Student Legislature and Southern Universities Student Government Association. She is a May Day attendant and formerly society editor and campus editor of The Ganecock, secretary of fresh man Y and an orientation coun selor. Miss Stockman, from Columbia, is a junior majoring in French and English. She is president of Chi Omega, formerly assistant treasurer, a varsity cheerleader, Nurses Entet For Three S Three sophomores are in the running for two Student Senate seats from the School of Nursing Kathy Gehman, Barbara luitt, and Donna Shuler. Miss Gehman, from Guantanomo Bay, Cuba, is managing editor of the 1966 Garnet and Black. She is is a member of Epsilon Epsilon Epsilon, Meditrine. Society, social chairman of Pi Beta Phi, Orienta tion Counselor, and Editor of the 1966-67 Carolina Community. She is also a candidate for vice-presi dent of the junior class. Miss Huita, from Charlotte, N. C., is secretary of Kappa Delta sorority. She is formerly scholar ship chairman and was voted best pledge. She is also n candidate for cheerleader. The can didate promises "to represent all students and groups at Carolina" if elected.
