QUESTION: In what way does the University receive Federal fund?
How does this compare with the total budget of the University?
ANSWER: According to the accounting department-The University
receives Federal funds in several ways. Grants in research, scholar
ships, and physical expansion. The 1965 expenditures were $12,884,.
000 of which seven per cent or $898,404 came from the Federal
Government. This figure does not contain the amount of money
used for scholarships. There was no major building construction
using Federal funds in 1965.
QUESTION: Why are the facilities in the men's lounge in the Russell
House always out of order and the room messy?
ANSWER: According to the Maintenance Dept.-The heavy load placed
on the facilities and fixtures due to its central location may cause
a short period when they may be out of order. Also repairs are
made when a disorder is reported.
(Inquiry Note: Have you taken time to report any disorders?)
QUESTION: Why has WUSC stopped playing "Old Gold" music in the
late afternoons?
ANSWER: According to Steve Brock, WUSC program manager-The
hours used for the show coincide with dinner hours, so most students
are not listening to the radio. There are several other stations in
town which play rock & roll. Most of the other programing on
WUSC is quiet music and therefore is not in keeping with the
general format of the station. Also WUSC is put into the P. A.
system in the Russell House and rock & roll is not in good taste
for such service.
QUESTION: Why are several of the doors in the Russell House Cafe
teria locked during meals, making it hard for students to enter?
ANSWER: According to Slater Director John Driscoll-Some doors are
locked due to requests made by students on windy or cool days.
QUESTION: Why are the parking meters in front of South Dorm en
forced at night and on weekends?
ANSWER: According to the Campus Police-This policy is to provide
space for visitors, and stop and go parking, such as picking up a
date. If the law was not enforced, the spaces would fill up as soon
as the grace period began and would remain full until the next
morning.
QUESTION: Are students allowed to park cars on the Horseshoe, if
'so, when?
ANSWER: According to the Campus Police Department-Students are
allowed to park registered cars on the Horseshoe between the hours
of 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays and from 1 p.m. Saturday to 12
midnight Sunday. This is allowed in marked parking areas.
QUESTION: Does the Russell House stay open past 11 p.m. when a
movie is on television?
ANSWER: According to Jack Wilson, Asst. Director of the Russell
House-The Russell House does stay open for television movies to
end if they do not last too long past 11 p.m.
