Exchanges In History Scheduled The department of history has announced an invitation by the University of Warwick at Coven try, England, to exchange history majors beginning f a I I semester 1966. This will become a one-semester exchange each fall. All history majors of the Uni versity of Warwick will come to the United States in their second year. They will go to Swarthmore College, Columbia University, the University of Chicago, the Univer sity of Wisconsin and the Univer sity of California at Berkeley in addition to Carolina. Seven students will be ex changed with Carolina this fall. Students eligible are those who will be juniors in September 1966 who plan to major in history, and junior history majors who will not graduate before June, 1967. The Warwick students will take regular course work in U. S. his tory and may also take a course in American government and Aneri can literature. The USC students at Warwick will study British and Modern European history and will receive University credit. Application blanks and further information may be obtained at the department of history office in Currell College. Blanks must be, completed and returned by Mon day, March 21. Roger Miller In Student Ui Folk music artist Roger Miller will be the featured performer in Student Union Dance and Concert Committee - sponsored c o n c e r t March 23 at Township Auditorium. Admission for the 8 p.m. pro grain is $1.50 per person for stu dents and faculty with one ID card per couple. Miller has become one of the more widely known artists in the popular music field through such songs as "King of the Road," "In the Summertime," "Chug a Lug," "Doo Wack A-Doo." and "Dang Me." T h e Johnson Administration now is proposing a much slower "phase out" of the National De fense Student Loan Program than was originally planned. In his M.arch 1 message to Con gress on domestic health and ed ucation, President Johnson called for an "orderly transition" of the NDEA loan program to the new p r i v a t e l y financed Federally guaranteed loan program "so that no eligible student will be deprived of the needed financial assistance." Applications for the loans are now being received by University Director of Student Aid Rolwrt Jeter for the 1966 sunmner -ecsions. Deadline for the receipt of all applications for the summer terms is May 1. As stated in The Gamecock (Feb. 25, 1966), it was feared that a gap between the termination of one Federal loan program and the be ginning of another would leave many students without economic aid.
