The present acting (lean of the
School of Education at UNC has
been selected as the new dean of
Carolina's School of Education.
Dr. John Otts, a professor at
,.Chapel Hill for nearly five years,
will become head of the school on
July 1. He will replace Assoc.
Dean of th- University George
Curry who has been acting (lean
of the school since the replacement
of Dean W. W. Savage last sum
mer.

The Student Senate this week
received a bill which would provide
for a referendum to approve an
increase in student activities fees.
If passed in a referendum, the
bill would raise the student activi
ties fee by $5 from the present $8
por student to $13 per student.

dent Jim Graves, the bill states
that the present fees "seriously

Play Continues
In Drayton Hall
"Dark of the Moon," presented
by the University Players, opened
last night at I)rayton Hall.
The theme of the play is one of
the versions of the folk song, "The
Ballad of Barbara Allen." Set in
the Smoky Mountains, the folk
play concerns a witch boy named
John, played by Don McMahon,
who falls in love\with the beauti
ful Barbara Allen, port rayed by
Susan Vogel.
Playing tonight and Saturday
night, admission is $.50 for USC
studlents, $.75 for other students,
$1.00 for faculty and $1.50 for
non-faculty adults.

way to raise the fees would be by
passage of the referendum. At the
request of President Graves, debate
was postponed on the bill and it
was sent to committee.
Also approved was a bill intro
duced by Sens. Jim Mulligan and
Stan Applebaum which, if passed
in the Spring elections, would in
crease the size of the Senate. The
bill was reported out of the Rules
Committee favorably, and a f t e r
clarifying debate, was overwhelm
ingly passed. The bill would pres
ently affect only the Towers, Pres
ton, and T r i u m v i r a t e Dorm
Governments and the Interfratern
ity Council, whose p r e s i d e n t s
would receive Senate seats.

This is where the money for the niversity is coming

Income and allocations for the 1966-67 terms will be ap
proximately the same.
State appropriations are used principally for "mainte
nance"-meaning the complete operation of academics, ad
ministrative facilities, libraries and the physical plant. None
of the state allocations go into auxiliary enterprises such as
dormitories, infirmary and food service, according to Dean
of Administration Harold Brunton.
"The student still pays the major part of the cost," Dean
rrunton said in explaining from where the total funding for
the SUniversit comes.
