Jim Mulligan who did the questioning. "The Senate," said Sen. Mulli gan, "passed a bill on Nov. 17 which would modify class at tendance regulations. I spoke with Dean Witten and he told me that the bill had been sent to the Stu dent-Faculty Relations Committee. From Nov. 17 to the present has been a long time," Mulligan con tinued, "and I would like to know what action has been taken on the bill." It was noted by several Senators who are members of the Student Faculty Relations Committee that the Committee had not met for several weeks, and that this was the reason no action on the bill had been taken. Vice-President Thorne Compton commented, "There has been a lot of concern recently about the lack of communication b e t w e e n stu dents, the administration, and other phases of the University. Several time.s the Senate has passed bills and then not been able to find out what happened to them. This is a problem which con cerns all of us, and we may need all of the Senators to follow up legislation. I don't mean to make a blanket criticism of the adminis tration, it's just the way things work around here. However, there are moves underway now by both students and the administration which may correct the situation. In other action the S e n a t e passed a bill asking the adminis tration to make the board plan optional for freshman, instead of having the p r e s e n t compulsory plan. The bill was introduced by Sen. Charlie Montgomery, and was approved after a short but slightly heated debate by a 19-13 vote. The bill called it "a fundamental right of every student to decide where, when, and what to eat." Sen. Montgomery added that in his opinion the food in the cafeteria was not of good quality, but even if it were the best in town he would still be against a compulsory food plan. Sen.
