Car Accident
Early Sunday
Fatal To One
One USC student was killed and
two others injured near Columbia
early Sunday when their car
crashed into a tree as it traveled
on St. Andrews Road toward 1-26.
The crash victim was identified
by the State Highway Patrol as
Phillip S. Smoak, Jr., 22
Injured in the car were Sam
Harry Ross III of Anderson and
Thomas M. Allen of Charlotte,
N. C.
Allen was first reported in
serious condition with fractures
and facial cuts. As of Wednesday
night he was off the critical list
and improved but will be hos
pitalized for some time.
Ross, who was reportedly driving
the car, also suffered a fracture
and facial cuts, but his condition
was not considered serious. He
should be released this weekend.
