But when one of the country's leading machinery makers goes into women's fashions, it's news. The step into high fashion is by American Machine & Foundry Company, which produces the Monorail, atomic re actors, and automatic equipment for the tobacco, food, gas and oil, defense and space industries. AMF also produces automatic pinspotting machines and bowling equipment for which it is probably best known. This is the prime reason for the company's move into the fashion field. Since AMF developed and introduced its Automatic Pinspotter, the world's first automatic ten pin machine, bowling has had a phenominal growth in popularity among men, women and children of all ages. Over 39 million Americans are bowling in some 11,000 modern ten pin centers today, the majority of which are equipped by AMF. Many of today's bowlers are women, and it is because of them AMF turned its attention to haute couture.
