Plans are moving ahead for Re
ligious Emphasis Week, slated for
the beginning of next semester,
February 1-3.
Although the Week has been
reduced to three days this year,
it will be preceded by a campus
wide, inter-denominational retreat
at Camp Gravat January 30-31.
Main speakers will be Dr.
George Sweitzer, professor of
chemistry at the University of
Tenn.. and Ernest Gordon, Dean
of the chapel at Princeton. Dean
Gordon is the author of Through
The Valley of the Kwai, on which
the movie Bridge over the River
Kwai was based.
Classes will be suspended at 10
a.m. Monday, February 1, for the
opening convocation; Tuesday and
Wednesday convoctions will be
held at noon. Gordon will speak at
these while Sweitzer will conduct
evening meetings. The University
chaplains will take part in the
afternoon and evening discussions
formerly led by outside speakers.
In addition to convocations,
R-E Week will feature an art dis
play and chalk exhibit in Russell
House. A folk sing and various
other forms of entertainment are
also in planning.
