Studying Where Di By ANN PARKINSON Staff Writer Now that hour quizzes seem to be coming one after the other, there is the problem of trying to find a place to study successfully. For some people the new under graduate library is a haven of peace and quiet, but for others it is the opposite. Whispering couples studying for tests and roaming, shoeless boys (men) are distracting. Other people turn to their dorm room in desperation for a place to study. Upon entering, several friends have to be cleared out and their bull session continued in the bath room. At the desk, cigarette butts and empty paper cups are shoveled away. Now that the desk is clear there is the problem of noise. The room mate is politely asked to turn off the record player or radio. The student commences to study but suddenly in barges a classmate asking about the day's assign ment. Obligingly, he is answered but asked not to return. The studious student strikes upon an idea. The student continues to try to study and seems to have a rea sonable amount of success until his roommate suddenly has an asthma attack. The South Dorm coeds have even more difficulty finding a place within the dorm to study. As you know, their studies are no longer studies. They were transformed into rooms this se mester to take care of all the girls who wanted rooms on cam pus. Now there are only the ironing rooms and hallways left for late night cramming. What's wrong with studying in their rooms? Well, after 1 a.m. rolls around, a room with a nice, soft, comfortable bed does not make an environment conducive to reading, going over notes, or catching up on homework from the past. If the room-mate is asleep this only makes matters worse. So the diligent coed winds up FOR LESS... ENT TRIPS ther students of your same age st trips by ship or plane: untries - $1072 untries (inc. NIGHT 'TIL 9:00 ( Except Saturday ) A m a t e u r meteorologists con clude their own causes for the unusual autumn weather. Having completed one course of Geography with a close D, they ruminate over the possibility that the world is revolving backwards or that the northern hemisphere is slowly slid ing down into the position of the southern hemisphere. With minds like these at our country's healm, the world has rothing to fear. Other more logical students, who completed the course with an cqually close C, infer that there is no need for alarm. At the present rate the world will not melt for at east fifteen and one-half days. Students who have gone down in hiistory as making a B in Geogra phy have the good sense to keep juiet. Besides, they cheated any way. Not to be outdone by their scientific counterparts, astronomy students have conferred and de teloped the astounding theory that ,he earth is undergoing a vital :hange. According to these diligent icholars this revolving mass of iumans has suddenly acquired ;he seasons of Saturn which last or seven and a half years each. Since Columbia is known to be the hottest place on earth because of its proximity to "that other place where all tests can go," most students are surprised at nothing. They simply wear their one summer outfit and proceed through life barefoot. In fact, if the unseasonal weather continues, some families are contemplating a picnic Thanksgiving dinner at the beach. No sense in carrying convention alism too far. Swimming pools will reopen. People will dash about gluing fallen leaves back on trees. In stead of winter colds, hypo chondriacs will get summer colds. It will be a pleasant and welcome second summer for all. For the first time in the his tory of the world, Christmas may come in July. Santa Claus will don his bermudas and children will lose all their faith in the grand old gent. As everyone know., a Santa Claus wouldn't have dimply knees.
