Contest
The Collegiate, Council for the
United Nations will sponsor a
"Miss United Nations" beauty con
test on campus next week, with
the initial competition Wednesday,
at 6:00 p.m., in Room 101 of the
Russell House.
The contest is open to any regu
larly enrolled coed at Carolina.
The Wednesday session will be to
interview perspective candidates
and to explain the procedures of
the contest. Eight semi-finalists
will be chosen by the CCUN Coni
mittee, and these will be involved
in more formal competition laterl
in the week.
The winner of the USC title will
then face competition in January
with girls from colleges all over
the State for the South Carolina
"Miss United Nations" title.
State judging will be based on
three qualities, in order of their
importance: (1) beauty (both
swim suit and evening gown com
petition), (2) personality, and (3)
a general understanding of the
United Nations. There will be no
talent competition. According to
the State CCUN Office, any
campus organization, sorority, etc.,
may sponsor a candidate in the
state elimination. Campuses as
large as Carolina may enter girls
from several different organiza
tions. The USC contest mentioned
above is for just one organization,
the CCUN Committee of the Inter
national Relations Club. Any other
organization wishing to sponsor a
candidate should contact William
