New Chief O Stresses Need BY PAM VESTAL Staff Writer Carolina has a new police chief, a dedicated man with a fascinating background. Chief Huston E. Robi son is married and has six chil dren, five boys and a girl. His eldest son is now serving in the Navy. A veteran of twenty-two years in the Army, enlisting and coming through the ranks, Chief Robison spent three years as an enlisted man, went to Officer Candidate School, and then served nineteen years in the Military Police Corps lie has served as Provost Marshal, Assistant Provost Marshal, and Corrections Officer, both in tho it. LAM a. , am L1gli,,hI professor, has had two more hooks publislhed. Unlike his fir-t works (the Iliad iad the Odyssev, verse tramlationis) these are children's books of verse. Carolina Professor In Verse BY LEE BUSBEE Staff Writer Dr. Ennis Rees, a graduate of U William and Mary College, with a Master's and a Ph.D. degree from Harvard, has recently had two books published. The titles of these books are, Riddles, Riddles Everywhere, and The Song of Paul Bunyan and Tony Beaver. Both books were written for children but can be read by adults as relaxation. The riddles in this book have been drawn from all over the world, but especially from English andi American folklore, wvhere the majority of them appear in prose. "Along with Mother Goose," the author says, "rhyming riddles of the sort presented in Riddles, Riddles Everywhere are probably a child's best andI most natural introdluction to our p)oetic heritage, to what Keats called 'the realms of gold.'" Ennis Rees has also written a limited version of the best stories concerning Paul Bunyan, one of the most nmeaningful and enter taining of America's legendary heroes. lie tells the tales in force. ful, unrhyming verse that will deC light the young reader and all the~ members of his family. To complete the total narrative Mr. Rees tells a number of stories about Paul's southern counterpart, Tony Beaver, wvho had his camp in WVest Virginia and who was "every bit as big andI strong as Paul Bunyan. Toward the endl of the poem, Paul and Tony meet andl iscover what they have in conm .inon, a discovery that ends the book as it begins-in laughter.
