No doubt you are already "set tled" in your dorm-it's "illegal" to live off-campus since so much *Looking For A Student BY JIM GRAVES Staff Writer Only a few months ago, we were all looking closely at this question in magazines, pamphlets, and newspapers . . . that is, those of us who weren't faced with spend ing our glorious three month vaca tion at USC's famed summer ses sions! Today, it seems as though col lege students try to see who can find a summer job the farthest away or one more unusual than anyone else's. Among the most popular for this past summer were the jobs at the Green Giant Pea Cannery in Washington state, jobs as waitresses at the popular re sort restaurants on Cape Cod, and bell-boy, maid, or cook's jobs in our country's national parks. MINTZ Staff Writer The Clariosophic Literary So ciety, founded in 1806 and boast ing an alumni that would serv3 as a campus and state "who's who" dlirectory, begins a new season of interesting and informative pro grams on anything and every thing. The dlisplay andi development of skill in forensics and campus and civil leadership summerizes the purpose of this versatile organiza tion. All male students of the univer sity are invited1 to attendl the meet ings on Tuesday evenings, '7:00 p.m. They are held in the So ciety's hall in Legare College. Where was the student government you ask? They abandoned their proj ects during the summer. Space does not permit discussion of other interesting items such as fratern ity rush, the Slater System, ex -used absences (and how to get Lhem), varsity athletics, etc. How ever, rest assured in the knowl edge that soon, much sooner than y'ou may appreciate at this point, you too will become familiar with all of the important aspects of University life. Seriously though freshmen (and continuing students), we acknowl edge that there is much to be rained from an education at the University of South Carolina. Many of the faculty and much of the facilities are of top-notch caliber. We realize, however, that there are many things at USC that could stand improvement. We should not let our pride in our Alma Mater stand in the way of constructive criticism.
